Finished the Book So Can Blog Again

October 6, 2025

I finished the book this morning, so I’m free and clear to blog again.

Now I just have to figure out what to blog about, since I haven’t done anything new or noteworthy for three days.

Grocery delivery due today

I’m supposed to get a grocery delivery today, but nothing has arrived yet. The website interface says it’s still in the “preparacion” process. That’s odd because they usually deliver between 8 and 10.  But hey, I’m in no hurry.  Tranquilo, bebe!

I ordered some herbs/spices that are supposed to repel mosquitoes while still being safe for cats — specificaly basil, lemon balm, catnip and rosemary — but I don’t know if they’ll germinate from already harvested clippings.

If not, I can look for them at the feria next time I go.  I want to put some in pots on the patio so I can sit out there during the day without worrying about “day skeeters” that can bite me.

DEET and picardin are toxic to cats, so I don’t want to slather myself in those unless it’s absolutely necessary. When I do spray those on, I make sure to wash them off the palms of my hands so that when I eat or pet Charli, I don’t expose us to their deleterious effects.

GLYCEMIC INDEX

Since I’m eating more rice and potatoes than I did in the States, I decided to look up the glycemic index to see which are the healthiest varieties. I’m not diabetic, but the disease runs in my family, so I want to take precautions against it.

Turns out I need to switch from white rice to brown rice (bastami is best) and from white potatoes to sweet potatoes or yams, but to limit potato intake even then, as all potatoes have a pretty high glycemic index.

11:30 Just Sent My First UberEats Order to Cafe Delicias

Now I get to see if it reaches here, since Uber has a default address for me at Villas Escondidas although I have no idea why!  I put the proper address in the “delivery instructions” box because the interface wouldn’t allow me to change the default address for me. If the meal misfires, I’ll just let Mel and Laurie know the order is on me!

UPDATE:  The meal was delivered to Villas Escondidas, so Laurie and Melaney can enjoy it, and I will try to figure out why the actual delivery instructions didn’t get communicated to the driver so this doesn’t happen again. Luckily, it was my first order so the charge was minimal since there was a big discount for just trying the service the first time.

Weather here has been surprisingly mild

The weather here has been tame compared to what I’ve grown accustomed to here in El Cajon.  We haven’t had any natural noise (thunder/lightning storms) for three days, although there have been a couple of downpours since then.

It has felt almost chilly up here during part of the day, so much so that I even donned my Scholastic arctic fleece jacket for a short time every day.  Not that I had to — I was far from freezing! — but it just felt appropriate.

But by mid-afternoon it usually gets warm enough to feel muggy, or like I should bring my bedroom fan out to the living room here to moderate the temperature some.

I guess that’s all the news that’s fit to print today.  I may Uber in to Grecia to get some more cash and eat at Cafe Delicias what I ordered that didn’t reach me. No, I better not, since the grocery delivery hasn’t arrived yet. I’m sequestered here until that happens.  Aw, shucks!
