El Cajon Costa Rica will be my new home. Brooke Bishop drove me there to see it in person today and I fell in love immediately. Move imminent, probably no later than this coming Saturday. Brooke is writing up the lease agreement now. I cannot recommend her highly enough. She loves what she does, and she appears to be psychic. How did she know I would be knocked out of my socks by this casita???
I am so excited!
And on the way back from the trip there, Brooke kindly stopped in Grecia so I could get Charli the housewarming gift I’ve had my eye on for two weeks. (Charli likes it; see image below!) She even gave me the Spanish phrase to ask for a discount: “Se puede darme major precio.” It worked. The clerk took ten dollars off!

Here’s the front of the casita
Living room/casita entry door is on the left (lights on), master bedroom is on the right…

This is the view of the living room, taken from the kitchen
It’s the first room you enter walking in the front door.

This is the kitchen. Image taken from the living room. Since this image was taken, a combo washer/dryer has been added to the room between the door and the kitchenware cabinet.

This is the master bedroom.
It will serve as the guest room when people visit me from afar.
During those times, I will bunk with Charli in her room (below)

Charli will love the upper level of this room!
I will have to devise a way to get her up the stairs — carpeted log or plank!

Seriously truncated view from the patio. I’ll get better pictures from there SOON!!!
It’s freaking breathtaking and Cathy (my landlady) says the sunsets are sensational!

Bathroom (two views of same one; there is only one)

All of this, all utilities paid (except for cable if I want it; I don’t!) for $750/month! You can’t get any luckier than this at this price in Costa Rica.
The bus stop that goes to Grecia is about 600 meters away. Uber can meet me at my address if I don’t want to travel by bus. I can even have groceries delivered for four or five dollars, so I don’t have to take an Uber or bus to Grecia to shop unless I want to.
Charli will love it there and be safe outside. (I will still watch her when she goes out.)
Every door and window has screens, and Cat will get me an acrylic sheet to use in the screen door so Charli can’t paw it to ask to go out. Cats and screens can be problematic, and I need to be sure she doesn’t shred them and let mosquitoes in because they carry tropical diseases down here. (She has been exemplary here at VE. Hasn’t even put her paw on the window screens.)
In the kitchen is a combo clothes washer/dryer, European style. It’s door instructions are in Spanish but I can read them. Cat is going to send me an instruction manual for it, too.
I believe I will be there no later than Saturday. If Mel and Laurie can’t get me there before then, Jon says he will take me there on Saturday morning with all my belongings because he has already scheduled a visit there with someone. I’m hoping I can move sooner. That’s because the sooner I can settle Charli in, the better I will feel. It’s too people-y here for her. In El Cajon, it’ll just be the two of us unless she elects to wander down the hill. And Cat’s dogs, Cat and her husband are there, so she probably won’t do that!
You will not believe the sight from the front porch. It sold me on the place as much as the rental itself did.
Brooke is psychic. She’s certainly in the right business. She figured I’d love it the moment it became available as a long-term rental. It has been an Air BnB. It even has it’s own Facebook page: Casita Tucana21.
Be sure to check it out … and try not to become too envious!
Can you see why I want to move there YESTERDAY?!!!
INCREDIBLE!
