Editing Still… Tilt!

February 5, 2014

I’m about an hour away from being finished with a 40K word editing project–the first time through. I spent six hours on it today and two hours on it yesterday, so my eyes are crossing right now. (I spent a lot more time before yesterday. I’m just reporting on the last two days with regard to this project.)

Tomorrow mid-morning I’ll tackle it again and finish the first run through. Right now I’m just tightening up sentences, which is making a huge difference.

Next, I’ll go back through it and find places that are redundant and decide which ones to keep and delete the rest. (I’m guilty of the same thing when I write my own stuff. I often  think of three different ways to say essentially the same thing and then have to figure out which of the three is best.)

This manuscript is about the Ten Commandments in the ancient world (during the time it was given) and how they fit into today’s modern world. It isn’t preachy at all. It’s insightful and truly worth reading. I’m enjoying both the exercise (editing) and the insights. My opinion about the whole matter has changed. I totally “get” what the author is saying, and I agree. (I didn’t expect to, necessarily, so this is a good thing. It means he did a good job of explaining his viewpoint.)

I’m way ahead of where I was last month at this time, money-wise. I hope it continues. It feels good.

This is as good as it’s going to get today, so I’ll sign off for now. I’ll write more this coming weekend (if not before) after I’ve thought of something that’s worth taking more of your time.

Have a great day!

P.S. Are there any questions about copy writing that you’d like me to answer? If so, let me know. I’m here to serve you!
