Dr. Seuss Day at Shining Mountain Elementary March 3

February 28, 2014

Monday afternoon I’ll be reading a Dr. Seuss book (or two) to young students at Shining Mountain Elementary School in Spanaway. I’m looking forward to it with great anticipation.

I love reading Dr. Seuss to kids. His books engender a love of word play and stories early in life, and kids who love to read end up getting a lot farther in life (usually) than kids who avoid reading as much as possible.

Books helped me learn, escape and find ways to organize and express my thoughts. Writing probably saved my life, as an  introverted, bottled-up, seething-with-anger teenager. (Dad was an alcoholic. Home was a tough place to survive intact. I got an ulcer.)

These days, writing pays my bills.

Words work magic when magnificently aligned. Dr. Seuss knew how to do that. I love sharing him with wee ones…and not so wee ones!

Get O The Places You’ll Go and see if he doesn’t make your day, no matter how old you are!
