This morning I opened the carton of Dos Pinos plain yogurt to discover that it isn’t anything like the yogurt in the U.S. And that’s a good thing!

 

Esta mañana abrí el cartón de yogur natural Dos Pinos para descubrir que no es nada como el yogurt en los EE.UU. Y eso es algo bueno!

 

This yogurt is so thin that it’s almost like evaporated milk in texture. That makes it super easy to add jelly, jam or pieces of fruit so that every spoonful (or strawful if you have a large bore straw) is awesome.  You don’t get plain/fruit/plain/fruit flavor; you get 100% flavor from whichever fruit you put into it.

 

It’s also 100% natural.

 

Este yogur es tan fino que es casi como la leche evaporada en textura. Eso hace que sea súper fácil añadir gelatina, mermelada o trozos de fruta para que cada cucharada (o strawful si tienes una pajita grande) sea impresionante. Rest in Peace, Jane Goodall

 

I was saddened to learn that Jane Goodall passed away yesterday. She is an icon to me and, I expect, to all of us who respect the natural world and its creatures. She was  a pioneer and a guiidng light. I miss her already. She was among the very best that humanity has produced since its earliest inception. If there’s a heaven, she is in it and reuniting with her beloved chimpanzee family and with like-minded human friends who preceded her in transition. For people like her, I HOPE there is a heaven.

Me entristeció saber que Jane Goodall falleció ayer. Es un icono para mí y, espero, para todos nosotros que respetamos el mundo natural y sus criaturas. Fue una pionera y una luz guiadora. Ya la echo de menos. Ella estuvo entre los mejores que la humanidad ha producido desde sus inicios. Si hay un cielo, ella está en él y reuniéndose con su amada familia de chimpancés y con amigos humanos afines que la precedieron en la transición. Para gente como ella, ESPERO que haya un cielo.

My landlady says I can plant an area just below my casita with anything I want, so I’m going to ask Jon and Francisco for an “hijo” from their plant and replant it here. I don’t know how fast they grow, or if I’ll even be here still to enjoy its nighttime fragrance, but I want to plant one anyway. It’s a gorgeous plant.

 

Mi casera dice que puedo plantar un área justo debajo de mi casita con cualquier cosa que quiera, así que voy a pedir a Jon y Francisco un “hijo” de su planta y lo replantaré aquí. No sé qué tan rápido crecen, o si voy a estar aquí todavía para disfrutar de su fragancia nocturna, pero quiero plantar una de todos modos. Es una planta preciosa.

 

I can also buy one in a nursery in Grecia, I suppose.  That might be the better idea, since it will be already growing, blooming and giving off the fragrance. I just have to be sure to get the right variety, as there are several of them.

I’m not much into gardening but it looks like this plant pretty much takes care of itself around here. The climate is perfect for it.  It can get its petals blown off in high winds, though, but there isn’t much of that where I am because of the hill behind me.

 

No me gusta mucho la jardinería, pero parece que esta planta se cuida muy bien por aquí. El clima es perfecto para ello. Puede perder sus pétalos con vientos fuertes, pero no hay mucho de eso donde estoy debido a la colina detrás de mí.

I’m going to the feria and to lunch with Jon, Francisco, Clarkie and Dale tomorrow. WOO HOO!  Can’t wait! They are sooo much fun!

Voy a la feria y almorzar con Jon, Francisco, Clarkie y Dale mañana. WOO HOO! No puedo esperar! Son tan divertido!

 

My driver told me there are iguanas at the feria. Jon confirmed this, saying some of them are a meter long and he will show me where they are tomorrow. I’ll take pictures, for sure! I adore iguanas!

 

Mi chófer me dijo que hay iguanas en la feria. Jon confirmó esto, diciendo que algunos de ellos son un metro de largo y él me mostrará dónde están mañana. ¡Tomaré fotos, seguro! ¡Adoro las iguanas!

 

Update:  Jon says they are running around there, wild and free, not at someone’s stand! That makes it extra special to me. I can’t wait to see them, In fact, I’m going to have a hard time dragging myself away from them to shop…but I do have to do some of that. I want zanahorias (carrots), papas (potatoes) and a few other staples for the crisper in my fridge.

 

Actualización: Jon dice que están corriendo por ahí, salvaje y libre, ¡no en el stand de alguien! Eso lo hace muy especial para mí. No puedo esperar a verlos, De hecho, voy a tener un tiempo difícil arrastrarme lejos de ellos para comprar… pero tengo que hacer algo de eso. Quiero zanahorias (zanahorias), papas (patatas) y algunos otros alimentos básicos para el crisper en mi nevera.

 

Jon confirms that there are black iguanas up this high in El Cajon, so I will start looking for them.  He say they prefer warmer climes, though, so I shouldn’t expect to see them regularly, or very many of them. Heck, I just want to see them in their native habitat; I don’t care how often!

 

Jon confirma que hay iguanas negras a esta altura en El Cajon, así que empezaré a buscarlos. Dice que prefieren climas más cálidos, sin embargo, así que no debería esperar verlos regularmente, o muchos de ellos. Heck, yo solo quiero verlos en su hábitat nativo; no me importa con qué frecuencia!

I know they are every gardener’s nightmare, but I just can’t get over being fascinated by leafcutter ants. I keep taking pictures and videos of them. (The videos end up on my Facebook page.)
