My Kings Books event is just three weeks away now! I’m getting excited and a wee bit nervous. I’ve only done one other personal appearance since COVID and it was for a much smaller group (eight, as I recall). The Kings Book venue can accommodate up to 100 people, 80 of them in chairs.I very much doubt there will be that much turnout, but one never knows…
Jeff Richardson and I are going to visit the bookstore today to get the lay of the land. He wants to see what the acoustics are like so he can mitigate against background noise as best he can for the livestream when it happens.
I will also place the De/McCoy Standee (image below) and display rack of my books today. The owner has given me permission to do that.
So, I loaded all my books into the SUV (three bins full). I don’t know how many they’ll want me to leave there today, but I will leave all of them if they’ll allow it. That way people who come in and want to buy any can get them right away. Some folks may not be available to attend on June 11th, and my goal is to re-home every one of my tree-books (softcover or hardbound) before I leave for Costa Rica in September. I’m not taking any tree-books with me. I have them all on Kindle, and that’s good enough for me.(Books are heavy and Costa Rica is humid, so bound books won’t last long down there, I’ve read.
Gotta head for Kings Books now. More later if I have any updates.
Update: I was able to leave most of my books at Kings Books yesterday, plus the standee.
Got an email this morning from the owner saying the display looks great.
It’s in a good location, too. Nearly every visitor to the store visited it while Jeff and I were there.
I was able to use three sheves instead of the display rack, so I could leave most of my copies there. This is good because I may be having hernia surgery shortly after the event (if not before) and there will be fewer books to pack up, lift, and bring back home afterward, now that people can buy them between now and June 11th as well as during the event on the 11th. I’m sure Lisa and Jeff will help me lift the remainder (if the store owner doesn’t want to keep them to sell them over time) if necessary, but I’m just glad there won’t be as many to bring back. Or, that’s my fervent hope, anyway!
Today I made a little donation canister to feature at the event, too, with the story explaining why I’m moving to Costa Rica, so people can donate to the move, if they feel like it…
It’s primitive, but cute!
