I cannot get over how freaking clever Robert M. Brantner is in this sci-fi novel I’m editing for him.
I’m having so much fun, it’s ridiculous. And delicious.
Alas, I can’t tell you a thing about it, but I’ve found myself grinning ear-to-ear or laughing out loud more times than I can count.
I’ve edited 111 pages so far (of 431 total; 186,000 total words, unedited), so I’m — what?– a quarter of the way through now? That looks about right.
The editing has taken 25 hours and ten minutes to date.
Some portions require more editing than others, but the story itself is absolutely riveting
This novel has everything: seat of your pants moments, hilarity (the fish-out-of- water stuff and malapropisms by various cultures is hysterical!), poignancy, history and legend. I don’t see anything missing.
If an agent doesn’t agree to represent him after reading this, I will be astonished
I can easily envision it becoming a mass market bestseller and eventually a motion picture.
I wish I could tell you more. I truly do. Can’t wait to help promote it after it’s published. You will be the first to know, I promise!
In Other News…
There is no other news. I’m so captivated by this editing project that nothing else captures my attention right now.
Usually when I’m editing I’m not this riveted to what I’m doing. I look for other things to occupy my time when I need to take the inevitable breaks to clear my head and regain my alertness.
All I can do with this one is tear myself away and wait the appropriate amount of time before coming back to it. I’m so eager to get back to it, the time in between feels like a drag. But it’s absolutely necessary.
I want to be at the top of my game for every page I edit and for that to happen, I have to take breaks every couple hours. For at least an hour. Two to three hour breaks would be even better.
Gotta discipline myself while editing this one! It has a tractor beam attached to it, I think.
IT MUST HAVE ME!
I am in its thrall.
