“Are You Cold?” — and Seeking Seattle Tacoma Area Hikers

October 11, 2025

I’ve been asked twice this morning, “Are you cold?”

Once at the mini mart when I walked there for a few items; the second time by today’s Max X Menos driver, Daniel.

It’s 65 F. degrees!

I smiled both times, then said, “No.  I’m from Seattle!”

They both nodded, understanding.

That said, by next year at this time I probably will be cold at this temperature. My body just hasn’t yet adapted completely to this tropical climate.

I do know that — as I walked to the mini mart this morning — I was wearing (still am, in fact!) my long-sleeved, Arctic Cool Hydrofreeze X Technology shirt and I did feel almost cold. On the verge of it, for sure.

But I talked myself out of it. I thought, “As long as it doesn’t rain right now and I stay dry, I’ll be fine.”

But had it rained — and I not had my umbrella along in case it did — I would have segued rapidly to cold, especially if the wind picked up.

So, yeah, 65 degrees with high humidity makes a big difference in one’s comfort level here, for sure!

It’s noon and and I’m sitting with the front door open as I type this.  It’s still 65 degrees, possibly a degree or two higher. And if I put on my Arctic Fleece Scholastic jacket I would not become overly warm. I’d still be comfortable.

I expect it’s getting chilly up north where I’m mostly recently from these days.  Yes, I just checked. It’s ten degrees cooler.

From November to March or April, it will be a LOT cooler. TOO COLD for my bones.

I’m glad I’m here where people inquire about my wellbeing at 65 degrees as if they’re worried that I’m so ill-clad in shorts and a long sleeved shirt that I might turn into a popsicle.

What thoughtful countrymen!

Attention Seattle-Area Hikers!!!

Which reminds me!  Daniel — one of two bilingual brothers who bring me my grocery orders from for Max X Menos — is planning a trip to Seattle next year.  He usually visits New Jersey because he has relatives there, but he has also visited Yellowstone Montana.

Next year he wants to go hiking in the Seattle area.  I asked him to let me know when the dates firm up so I can hook him up with a Seattle-area hiking enthusiast willing to show him some of the most amazing sights. I get that he’s quite a hiker and he’s definitely physically fit.

So, if any of you would like to volunteer to accompany him on some hikes, please let me know. He doesn’t know anyone in the Pacific Northwest and I want to do my best to find him a knowledgable hiking buddy.  I don’t think gender matters. I don’t think where mattters — the Olympics, the Cascades, Mount Rainier…

Please let me know if you’re amenable.  I’d love to introduce you virtually soon so you can get to know each other better in the meantime.

Thanks!
