Apostilles Are All Enroute, So I’m Booking My Flight Tomorrow

July 17, 2025

I just received word that my apostilled FBI background check document is on its way to me.

So is my apostilled Social Security document.

I already have the third apostilled doc in hand (the birth certificate).

That means I should be able to book my flight tomorrow.

I have an email in to United Airlines saying that I’d like a travel agent’s help to book the flight. It’ll cost $25 to do that, but I’m afraid I’ll do something wrong re Charli if I try to do it myself. I also want to know if they have senior rates.

It looks like it will cost about $1400 if I go business class (nix that idea, see below), not including the excess luggage fees for more than three checked bags. Charli’s flight cost is $150 unless they’ll honor emotional support animal documentation and waive that fee.  Her vet appt will cost $419 and I don’t know if her paperwork will cost more.

I can only take a total of four checked boxes whether I fly economy or business class. I was thinking I’d have six boxes, but if I pack very carefully and use every square inch of space, I should be able to get the essentials into four boxes.

I also know someone else from Seattle who will be flying down on the same day or the day before, and he may not use his full checked baggage allowance. I’m checking to see if he can get an extra box or two of stuff down there for me if I can arrange the same flight…  If not, Lisa can bring the remaining boxes when she flies down to see me in March, but that will leave me without some of my stuff until then.  I’ll just have to pack judiciously so that everything I will absolutely need and use until then gets on the plane with me.

In economy, I can change the flight if Charli’s exam goes south and we have to wait until later to fly out.  I can’t change the flight if I go business class, so that means we’re stuck flying economy. Which is fine.  I’m perfectly comfortable in economy these days…

Every new day brings another challenge and opportunity.  I’m rolling with the punches!
