I want the January 6th trial to be over with as soon as it’s practically possible. No one with their eyes open and analytical thinking who has seen, heard and read the evidence doubts that Jack Smith has the facts and witnesses that it will take to remove DJT from ever again assuming any position of political power.
I’d be deliriously delighted to see The Former Guy (TFG) behind bars — the usual ones that they put insurrectionist traitors behind (not home arrest, no special privileges, nothing to indicate anything other than that he has been a lifelong grifter and conman.) I’d like to see him caged with the January 6th perpetrators who are serving sentences after having pleaded guilty to seditious conspiracy. And yes, every formally indicted person is innnocent until proven guilty. I want the trial to be fair, the result to be true justice, and TFG refused the ability to run for POTUS again (at the very least). This is about assuring that our nation’s representatives and politicians will be decided by a majority of the people (of all colors and creeds), not punishing perpetrators and promoters.
Folks convicted of these crimes are proud, proactive, anti-democratic fascists. The one they listened to on January 6th was their leader. Kevin McCarthy knew it. Lots of GOP stalwarts knew it, and tried to get Trump to call it off. They knew what it would take to qwell the event; the leader simply refused to do what was necessary to do it. He was apparently enjoying the show, reveling in his power to create the kind of disturbance that ensued. All you need to do is look at his comments as he asked them to stand down. He repeated the Big Lie that the election had been stolen, and said the insurrections were very special and to “remember this day forever.”
