My stalwart co-host on EVER NEW, Hannah McCrane, will be my house guest for a week in October. WHEEE!
We have three things planned so far:
- a trip to Northwest Trek
- a trip to the coast (Pacific Ocean and/or Puget Sound)
- lots and lots of De Time
Things we will NOT be doing:
Hanging with my cats
Hanging with my rats
(Hannah is allergic to them.)
It remains to be seen how much hanging with my goats we’ll be doing. Probably not much, except from a distance.
And, of course, we will be Solstice-watching twice a day when he comes down from his tree for grub morning and night. I presume he will still be here when she arrives in just two weeks and three days, barring some predation tragedy. I can’t see him giving up his tree condo or forsaking his live goldfish, cooked eggs, and cat food any time soon!
Here are two images of Solstice’s tree condo (the second one is a close up using my smartphone, so the image is a wee bit out of focus)
Solstice has chosen the cubby hole next to the first lighter-colored tree branch on the left-hand side of this broken-off tree trunk. He fits completely inside it.
(Follow the tree branch with your eyes to the trunk of the tree. The hole next to it is Solstice’s Shack.)
When I call him, he pokes his head out, yawns, and decides if he wants to make the 35′ descent to the ground for food or not. (Usually he does, but not always. ) I will try to get a good shot of him poking his head out. It’s adorable when he does that. If I can’t get one, I know Lisa can with her good camera, and I will ask her to capture an image.
DE’S WESTERNS ARE ON TAP FOR HANNAH’S VISIT
Hannah hasn’t seen De in many (if any) westerns. I’m going to twist her arm and see if she will sit through one or two of them with me. Which two? Apache Uprising and … probably BONANZA (The Honor of Cochise or The Decision). Or maybe Death Valley Days’ Lady of the Plains.
If not, there are several videos of him at conventions that I know she will like.
And my De archives (the non-video ones) will intrigue her for at least one full afternoon, possibly more.
I have a feeling we will run out of time before we run out of things to do! With only seven days available to us — two of them getting her from and to the airport — the time is going to fly by at warp speed. But we’ll make the best of the time we have together, including doing an EVER NEW podcast together from my office den on October 8th. We’ll share what we’ve been doing then. I’ll do my best to take photos to illustrate our adventures.
