Landed a Memoir Writing Gig — WHEEE!

June 2, 2022

I just landed a memoir-writing gig that will earn me 10% of its profits for the next 20 years. (I loooooooooove passive income!)

I’m writing it under a non-disclosure agreement but it’s for a world-class professional in their niche. They have a massive following. And they already have several bestsellers, so they know how to get the word out, and their followers will buy every book they issue.

But first, I need to write the memoir!

I’ll be getting $165/hour to gather the source materials and write it! That’s less than most professional ghostwriters charge, and most ghostwriters demand more than 10% of the profits, too, but I’m totally onboard with what this person offers to the world and I don’t need any more than what’s adequate to do a bang up job, so our agreement is eminently fair for both of us.

This new gig will put quite a crimp in my “only 10 to 15 hours  per week” work-life balance promise to myself. I will need to dedicate additional working hours to completing this project. Two other clients use me regularly, but one of them goes mostly radio silent when school adjourns for summer vacation. So, I can dedicate those hours to this memoir-writing project. Fortunately, there is no pressing deadline for it. The client wants quality, not warp speed stringing of words together before a pinch-y deadline, so that’s good.

Lots of Experience Writing Memoirs

I have lots of experience writing memoirs. My own.  Most of my books are memoirs but with different focal points: raising, training, rehabbing and working with animals, DeForest Kelley, serving as a floating secretary in Hollywood, etc.  (I was taught early on to write about what I knew, so that’s what I did!)

I haven’t written memoirs for other people (until now), but this client has followed me for quite a while and loves the way I write, so as long as that’s the case, I feel confident that I can hit it out of the ball park for them. I’m eager to get started, although I’m short on writing time now, because I’m pinch hitting for a dear friend who has a close relative in the hospital on the days she can’t visit. I spend two to three hours with him three days a week…

WHAT’S HAPPENING ON “EVER NEW” THIS WEEKEND

Plus, on weekends, I have EVER NEW every other weekend. The next one is happening this coming Saturday, June 4th at 10:30 a.m. Pacific Time at this URL: https://www.twitch.tv/NDBMedia.

This weekend on EVER NEW Hannah McCrane and I have Ross Trowbridge joining us as guest co-host. Ross (aka GoldenSpike1 to those of you who have joined us and seen that moniker in the comments section) has wild horses, burros, Chincoteague ponies and other wild ones on his ranch, so he’ll be sharing some images of them with us and telling how he came about getting them. Plus, he’s a miniature railroad (and real railroad) aficionado and a superheroes photographer, so images from those pursuits will make an appearance, too.

In another segment, I’m going to reminisce about some of the many pranks that DeForest Kelley pulled on me and that I pulled on him, so that will be a hoot for those of you who can’t get enough of my experiences with the late, great Dr. McCoy.

UPDATE ON GERMAN LANGUAGE EDITION OF “DeFOREST KELLEY UP CLOSE”

The just-released German language edition of my book “DeForest Kelley Up Close and Personal: A Harvest of Memories from the Fan Who Knew Him Best” is getting great reviews. I received an IM this morning from a fellow named Christof Grimm, who is a writer and sci-fi blogger. He was very complimentary. I’m waiting to get his permission to share what he wrote, but the short version is that he plans to let everyone in his spheres of influence know that he loved the book. Thorsten Walch (the translator) says the other reviews that he has received or seen are equally positive. So, that bodes well for Thorsten and for Bjorn (the publisher) and eventually for me. (More passive income!)  And get this, if Christoff Grimm is related to the Brothers Grimm, we are very likely relatives of some sort!  I’m looking forward to seeing if we can connect the dots. Is anyone who’s reading this into genealogy?

The English language version is available here: https://amzn.to/3tbAdcq.

I guess that’s all the news that’s fit to print for this time. Enjoy the rest of your day!
