I’m getting five yards of “ugly gravel” for my goat shed today. Found a great deal on it nearby with King’s Gravel and Hauling. Here’s their business card if you’re in the area and need what they offer. They have attractive river rock, too…
Every day it’s decent out for the next week or so, instead of walking I’ll be wheelbarrowing ugly gravel to my goat shed to elevate the ground so it stays high and dry in there for the goats, no matter how rainy the weather. (We’re supposed to get 3 inches of rain over the next couple days here in Tacoma thanks to the Pineapple Express.) I got the new tarp put up two days ago, so now I’m ready to finalize the project so I can take pictures and show you.
I’ll probably only do about five wheelbarrows a day. Maybe more. We’ll see how it goes. With any luck at all, I’ll lose another two or three pounds doing this “little” project. The goat shed is about 12 feet wide and 30 feet long, so I got plenty of gravel for it. (It already has some in it.) I got 5 yards and I only need 4.4 yards, according to my calculations, if I add another 2.5 to 3 inches on top of what’s already there. It’s going to look fabulous when I’m through, I think!
If there is any left over, I can spread it around the driveway next to my house. Weeds are growing up through what’s there now in places, so it can use some more. We also have to get around to burning the weeds. There was a burn ban most of the year here, so we didn’t get around to it this year.
Update: Gravel is delivered and I was able to get about 100 shovels full of it into the goat shed before the rain started coming down in earnest. I dug trenches around the outside of the fence on the yard side and a freaking brook started running down it, so I got it going just in time to keep it from getting into the goat shed. Its’ draining into the French drain now. Yay! I won’t be able to add gravel until the rain lets up now. It’s coming down in buckets!
