I made $1000 in four hours this morning. I wrote five 700-word articles for a new client. If he likes them, he will hire me to do 25 more.
They’re a challenge because they’re all on the same topic, which doesn’t come with a ton of talking points. So, I have to figure out unique engaging ways to say the same basic things over and over and over again.
I managed it five times without losing my mind, so maybe I can keep doing it with the same quality. If not, I’ll do as many as I can and then let him know he needs to find someone else to do the rest.
And I made that much dough last week, too, in just about four hours.
Will wonders never cease? Sure hope not!
This is what life should be like for a competent copy and content writer. I shouldn’t be experiencing feast and famine anymore.
Hey, maybe this is the end of the famine part of the cycle for me! I hope so…
On Monday, I’ll be writing a crowdfunding campaign to help build a medical isolation facility in India for COVID patients to help ameliorate the tragedy that’s happening there. I didn’t ask a lot to do that — just $550 (Upwork will get 20% of that) but it’s a cause close to my heart, and I really think I can hit it out of the ball park for them, so that’s good.
I’d like to be kept super busy writing between now and June 9th, my surgery date.
Lisa and I will be biking three days a week, so that will take up three hours of time (counting the drive time to Orting) on each of the three days.
I keep looking for additional writing work every five hours or so on Upwork, where I get most of my work from. I want to have a lot of money in the kitty so that if I have to take two weeks off after surgery, I can do it without feeling I’m falling behind.
I don’t think I’ll need to take more than a week off, but I read online to plan for two weeks off.
But dammit, Jim, I’m a writer, not a ditch digger, so I’m sitting in a chair a lot of the time, which is the position I’ll be in after surgery while the surgical sites heal, so unless my brain stays offline for longer than a few days (and it shouldn’t, since I plan to be off heavy pain meds within two days, God willing and the creeks don’t rise!), I should be writing again pretty fast.
(And frankly, I don’t feel alive unless I’m writing whenever I’m not biking, reading, hanging with my pets and friends, or sleeping, so getting back to my keyboard is a biggie to me!)
I need to do a deep clean on my aquarium just before I have surgery. I won’t be lifting buckets of water for at least six weeks after. My fishies are going to have to get along without a deep clean for that long. Heck, I will have to ask Lisa to do a few shallow cleanings for me, even so… those 6 to 8 gallon buckets of water are heavy, and I’m not allowed to lift more than five pounds for at least four weeks.
(Good luck with that… I will do my best, but after my chest masculinization surgery I was allowed to lift up to ten pounds, and some of my paperwork for the panniculectomy says ten pounds, too, so I’m going to keep it between five and ten pounds while I recover. I expect my incision will remind me in no uncertain terms if I get anywhere near over-exerting!)
I guess that’s it for now. I’ve been writing since 3:30 a.m., so maybe I’m finally written out.
(Yeah, sure… but I gotta shut up sometime, and I’m out of palaver for right now, so I’m pulling the plug.)
Catch ya later, gator!
