Today’s brief update in a single soundbite, for those of you who want to do something other than read a lengthy blog post today:
I rode to Grecia with the Garrison’s this morning for breakfast at ANDALUZ and to find some dog-proof duds. They had their Uber pick me up here at my place so I wouldn’t risk running into the biting dog again before I got fully fortified with dog-proof duds and other appurtenances.
For those of you with nothing else better to do at the moment, here’s the slightly longer version!
When we got to ANDALUZ, they both ordered omelettes and lots of Costa Rican coffee and I ordered Huevos Benedict and a regular Coca Cola. It was wonderful being with them again, and the meals were delicious, as usual.
Before the meals were served, we dished up fruit and yogurt as appetizers. Yum yum! I put some granola in my yogurt and enjoyed every bite. Wanted to go back for more, but didn’t!
The waitstaff at ANDALUZ are wonderful
They’re working on getting the Garrisons to practice their Spanish with them, and they were very complimentary about their efforts to learn Costa Rica’s native tongue. The waitstaff nearly all speak and understand English, but now that the Garrisons have their DIMEX cards in process, I think they love helping them along in their new tongue. Their smiles were genuine and their kind encouragement were like music to the Garrisons’ ears.
I didn’t take any pix indoors this time — didn’t think to do it — but I caught a pretty good shot outside in bright sunlight. We were gonna get another one later, in shadow, but we spaced on it, so this is all you get this time!
Note Crystal’s new platinum blonde look!
Stunning!
After we ate, we wandered down toward Mercado Municipal and Huracan to see if they were open so I could look for a baton or cane and a pair of jeans so I can walk again with a greater degree of safety than wearing shorts.
On the way past the bank, I stopped at the ATM and got some colones so I can pay Adilio when he brings me back home on Tuesday and so I have some dinero on hand for incidentals this week if I need them (and feria money and lunch money for next week).
Neither MM nor Huracan were open, so we backtracked to two tiendas we’d bypassed on the way down, where I was able to get three pairs of 501 jeans for $40.
And jeez! I’m in size 32 now! That was a big surprise.
I tried on 34s but swam in them, so then I tried 30’s, which would have fit (snugly) but the lower legs below the knees were too tight. So, I settled on 32s. The lower legs are snug in them, but not tight, and the length is okay. The material is quite dog proof. (I was bare-legged the morning of the attack, wearing knee-length shorts.) If cowboys can wear ’em in high chapparal, I can wear them on dog-infested calles! I feel almost indestructible now! LOL!)
I also got a new shirt that I love. It has a removable hoodie on it, so I will have options during the cooler rainy season which is due in mid to late April:
The new shirt is bluer than it looks in this image.
The cane in this image belongs to Dale!
When we finished shopping, Crystal called for an Uber, which came within three minutes. Dale told me he had an extra cane — solid wood — which I can use for as long as I want to beat biting dogs with. I gratefully accepted.
Jon will be picking up an anti gravity recliner for me next time he goes to PriceSmart in Alajuela.
What a sweetheart! I very much look forward to having it.
TUESDAY I WILL DOG SIT AGAIN
…while Jon and Francisco take Crystal and Dale to the beach. I will get to see their new rental for the first time and hang with Alice and Thio and Tigressa (Jon’s and Francisco’s kitty cat) again. That will be fun — and yes, I am already armed with dog treats so they welcome me (and hassle me to feed them too many again, LOL!)
ANTIBIOTICS MESS WITH MY GASTROINTESTINAL SYSTEM
Thankfully, my system is adapting now, on day three, so I don’t have to spend so much time running to the commode. I felt normal enough to go to breakfast this morning without worrying too much about urgency, if you get my drift. (And now that you’ve got it, lose it, please! TMI! LOL!)
For those of you wondering how my dog bite is coming along,
here are two images:
Taken Friday March 13 after Clinica Sanchez
cleaned it all up…
This morning, two days post-bite…
It doesn’t hurt (never did, really, except when being alcohol-rubbed!), is sealed, and is healing nicely.
See?!
I told ya it was superficial!
(as I*define superficial!!!)
* a medically untrained, naive, and panic-avoidance-prone individual!
I’m going to let you go now so you can enjoy the rest of your day!
HUGS! (ABRAZOS!)
