Saturday Morning

September 27, 2025

I took the wet garbage to the waste receptacle at the main road this morning.

Every time I walk Calle Estaban Salas, I am overtaken by the beauty that I find along the way. I’m not sure I’ll ever get over it.

The sheer number of different plant and tree species blows my mind

I see plants growing along the way that I used to buy in plant stores in the U.S.

They’re so abundant and breathtaking in their rightful places!

It’s like living inside a neverending arboretum:

And the view of Grecia from El Cajon seems to change daily

depending on the fog and cloud patterns…

 SPECIAL INVITATION

Today at noon — if my groceries get here in time for me to put them away and call for an Uber — I will get to meet Monica Helms, the creator of the trans pride flag, at Villas Escondidas.

Ms. Helms has recently moved to Costa Rica and Laurie and Melaney (and perhaps others) are welcoming her with a tea.  So, I’m hoping my groceries come no later than ten o’clock. (They’re enroute right now, at 9 a.m., so they certainly should.) I’ll have sufficient time to  get  to Villas Escondidas if they do.

Mas x Menos, make my day so I can go welcome, meet and greet Monica Helms!!

I’ll Be Dog-Sitting One Day Next Week

Next week Jon and Francisco want to get away to la playa (the beach) for an entire day, and I’ve agreed to dog sit while they’re gone.  It’s going to be a blast. My driver will take me to where I’ll be picked up by Jon, who will then ferry me to their place, where I’ll meet the dogs (two sixty pounders) and spend the day.

Jon tells me they see white-faced monkeys there on occasion, plus agoutis and other Costa Rican mammals and birds. So naturally I’m anticipating seeing them, too — which would be a near miracle, given a single day to do it, but I will certainly be on the lookout for them. And of course if I see them I will do my best to get decent pictures of them. (I’m trying to convince myself to invest in a proper camera, now that I’m down here!  I could get one frugally enough with the refund I got from United Airlines for the return trip that Charli and I will never be taking.) AND I can look online here at Marketplace to see if anyone is parting with a good one…

Yes!  There are always possibilities. I don’t believe in the no-win scenario!
