Tomorrow Jon, Adilio and I head back to San Jose to finalize my status change paperwork. We have to stop part way there to pick up the translated doc that Angie Vargas did for me. I hope to pay her direct so I don’t have to go back to the bank to do that.
After that trip, if we’re back in time, Brooke Bishop is going to drive me to El Cajon to see a furnished apartment I’ve been thinking about renting for more than a month. It looks really good in the pictures. Again, it’s my second choice — I’d prefer something closer to or in San Ramon — but beggars can’t be choosers, and the unfurnished one I saw in San Ramon isn’t one I want. I’m in touch with another real estate agency in San Ramon, but they haven’t gotten back to me other than to ask how I got their number. (They work out of Florida!)
Appointment Hiccup
The phone rang this morning. It was Brooke Bishop. I picked up the phone with a cheery, “Hi, Brooke!” and she said, “Are you close?” OOPSIE!!!! I had thought we’d made an appointment for Thursday to see the El Cajon apartment because she had said earlier that she was booked Tuesday but had some availability on Thursday. But then she sent a follow up saying 8:00 was good if I could Uber in and meet her in Grecia. I wasn’t observant enough to notice that she mentioned Tuesdy in the follow-up and assumed she meant Thurdsay, so I confirmed for that and put it on my calendar.
Well! Was I mortified and embarrassed, or what, when she called this morning to ask if was almost at our rendezvous point! JEEZ! I aplogized profusely and explained the disconnect. I also texted her later letting her know I was still kicking myself for not reading her reply more thorougly than I had. She was lovely, saying the hiccup freed up time for her to tackle some things that were on her to-do list. What a champ!
My Skin Looks and Feels Healthier Down Here
I’ve only been here fewer than two weeks but my skin condition has visibly improved. I don’t know if that’s due to the increased humidity or to the fact that I’ve been applying moisturizing sunscreen without fail, but wow! My skin looks years younger and feels smoother. The calluses on my feet have softened, too, and I can feel the bottoms of my feet again. It’s quite the change!
I Stayed Home all Day for the First Time Since Moving Here
(I couldn’t make this claim had I known the rental viewing appointment was scheduled for today instead of Thursday — er, tomorrow afternoon, now!)
So, earlier today I took Charli out to see if she was ready to check things out outdoors a bit more thoroughly. She was!
She spent nearly an hour circumventing the hotel room areas of this property. I took pictures and videos of her adventure. I’ll put some of the stills here. To see the videos, visit my Facebook page. (Kris M Smith, Tacoma WA. OH! I need to change my location! Or maybe not, until my sis moves and my address there goes away.)

We’re having another gully washer right now
T’is the rainy season and I am loving it. Sometimes the thunder is almost unexpected and somewhat disconcerting to me (and Charli!) when the lightning is right next door, but that’s rare enough not to unduly detract from the event. Nature’s superpowers are amazing! I really enjoy thunderstorms. We got them only infrequently in the Pacific NW and those were nothing like the ones here. Here, it’s almost monsoon-y. Hollywood special effects-level displays of power and heavenly wrath. I’m mesmerized!
Happy Birthday to My New Friend Dale Garrison
Clarkie Mullen’s husband Dale Garrison completed another trip around the sun today. I hope your day was as special to you as you are to us. Feliz Compleanos, Amigo!
