Un-Branded My Vehicle & Walked Today

August 18, 2025

Today I un-branded my vehicle (scraped the wordwhisperer.net stuff off the windshields) and walked 7500 steps.

I also took myself to lunch at Shari’s for probably the last time.

Alas, they didn’t have the traditional balsamic vinegar for my favorite meal there — a Northwest Steak Salad — so I had to settle for ranch dressing. NOT the same. Not even close. Disappointing.

I should have walked to the Dollar Store and bought a bottle of it while I waited.  It was less than 200 steps away. Oh, well…

But the coconut creme pie was to die for, so that made up for the disappointment

Jackie and I Clipped the Hens’ Wings

Also this morning, Jackie and I clipped the flight feathers off the hens’ wings to keep them from sailing over the pasture fence. A beautiful slate blue coyote almost caught one yesterday who had gone over, so we knew it was time to do the deed again.  And Jackie needed to remember how to do it, because she will be doing it from now on.

Unlocked my Smartphone so I can get a Costa Rica SIM card & phone number down there

I just remembered to call Consumer Cellular again to get my phone unlocked. The CSA assigned to me, Tiffany, said it’s eligible for that as of today, but she couldn’t get it to happen, so she has escalated the matter.  Someone will email me when they’ve succeeded in unlocking it. Consumer Cellular is fantabulous!  I doubt I will keep them down there but if I was staying here, I’d keep them forever.

Splish Splash, I Took a Bath, Soaked for a Half hour

I  almost fell asleep in the tub this afternoon. Charli jumped up on the edge and meowed at me, as if to say, “You’re crazy getting wet like that on purpose (was I adopted?!), but fer gosh sake, don’t fall asleep in there!”

Then I slathered myself with jojoba oil from stem to stern. My skin likes it when I do that. I look much less like a prune!

Had a Panic Attack Last Night in My Sleep

As calm as I feel when I’m awake about moving away, my psyche is giving me a few fits at times (just occasionally, fortunately!) when I’m asleep. I don’t remember what I was dreaming, or even if I was dreaming, but I awoke feeling super panicked. It didn’t last long; I just had to open my eyes to dispel it. But I hate it when that happens. I have a lot more to worry about on this side of the move than I do on the other side.

It’ll be good to get to Villas Escondidas so all of this in-the-meantime stuff is behind us.

Tomorrow I drive to Rochester to unload a futon at my niece and nephew’s and to sign my will and POA documents. Laurel tells me to be super cautious on Harris Road because there’s a daily deer collision there right now, plus the logging trucks take up more than their half of the road. Just what I’d need is to wreck my SUV two weeks before it’s scheduled to go to its new owner. HORRORS!  I will be ridiculously careful!

Wednesday I meet with my health insurance broker to find out what she found out about what I should do about health care coverage during the interim Sept-Jan timespan before the new Medicare Advantage plan can kick in (IF that’s what she has decided is wisest for me). I also have a fond farewell dinner with Bohemia Isis Smith at Yen Ching Restaurant on South Tacoma Way.

Wednesday afternoon was supposed to be Lisa’s day with me this week, but insurance issues have to come first. Dagnab it!

(I will see if I can change the insurance appointment to Thursday but if I can’t, I need to keep it as it is.)

I guess that’s all for this time…
