Unsettling Nightmare

August 14, 2025

I had an extremely unsettling nightmare last night that I’m not going to share until I get to Costa Rica, if then.

I’m keeping it as a draft while I consider possible repercussions should I elect to publish it in the near future.

It’s political as all get out, and perhaps even prescient, so I don’t want to release it until I’m safely away from here.

And I may not even then. I may just delete it.

But one thing about it is that when I woke up this morning, the first thing I saw in the news at HuffPost was about a particular font that the Third Reich used and which appears to have been only slightly altered for a since-deleted (due to copyright infringement) ICE recruitment ad.

The entire nightmare was Third Reich flavored, but brought up to the present moment right here in the USA.

It was truly upsetting. It involved close relatives.

Do I sound paranoid?  Maybe I am!

But the sad reality is that the current regime is also a very real, existential threat for tens of millions of fellow citizens, and I’m right in there among their numbers for several reasons.  My psyche reminded me of this last night while I slept.

If a masked, unidentified authoritarian figure came to our house and asked my sister for me, she wouldn’t intervene.  She’s indoctrinated into the mindset that white men are to be OBEYED and that anyone who pushes back against them will suffer.

She isn’t wrong, but she’s unquestionably on the wrong side of history for not pushing back ANYWAY, because it will never end unless we all stand up to this tyranny.

White men are only 30% of this country.  They are a distinct minority

There are more white women than white men and more people of color than there are white men.

That’s what has white men running scared right now and battening down the hatches. They know that if the rest of us simply unite and say NO MORE, their goose is cooked, white male supremacy is over, and true equity can reign for the first time in our 350+-year history.

I can only imagine what Latinos are experiencing in their nightmares these days

No one has come knocking at my door (yet). Every Latino I know, knows someone whose door has been knocked on, whose workplace or school or court proceeding has been invaded. And they know the hateful stares they are receiving when they steel themselves to go out in public for any reason these days.

It’s truly insane what this nation has become.

A place of daytime real-life nightmares.  Terrorism on the half shell, even for those of us who were never subjected to it before this regime and its Supreme Court came into power.

Our “rights” are not guaranteed, codified rights any longer.

This regime doesn’t accept codified law as a real thing.  They feel free to ignore it.  They say, “Try and make me!” whenever a court order is issued that goes against their ideology.

No more Roe v Wade

No more voting rights

No more habeas corpus

No more of any law that grants all citizens and guests the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

I’m so glad I’m getting the hell out of here.

UNLESS the nightmare comes true before I am safely away.

My heart aches for all of us, those who are moving out and for those who must stay here (at least for now) for whatever reason.

I wouldn’t wish this scenario on my worst enemies…and yet, here we are!

And my stomach churns…
