At today’s UCN networking meeting I got three glowing testimonials, two from people I edited and copy-enhanced pieces for (Pam Richardson of Homestreet Bank and Sandra K. Austin of Health Transformationz) and Eli Struck of Enlighting Design (who is working on a postcard campaign for my Chicago chiropractic client based on copy I wrote for him), plus a pat on the back from someone I admire without end (Joyce Singleton of The Bigger Sandbox).
It was downright heartwarming
I gave testimonials for Eli, Debi G of Body Beautiful Skin Care and Massage (where I experienced my cranio-sacral session last Friday in Puyallup) , Heritage Bank (my sister’s bank–and mine!), and Billy Price of Univera.
Had a one-to-one with Brian Kaplan, who is going to put me in touch with the publishers of “the little brown paper” to see if I can get a part-time gig correcting the egregious ad-writing mistakes they keep making. (I get nearly apoplectic every time I pick it up, it has so many mistakes in it.)
Eli said he hadn’t truly scrutinized my stuff before getting the postcard gig, but when he saw how I transformed the original copy into something compelling and converting, he was completely sold on my abilities. He called what I did “magic.”
Pam said I copy-edited a hosting speech she has to give soon and that the few tweaks I made to it transformed it.
Sandra said I turned her “boring” brochure copy into a compelling, fun read and then shared one example of a change, which engendered appreciative nods all around.
So, slowly but surely, local-area people are getting the message that my skills are excellent and that my clients can trust me to have their backs and their best interests at heart, including their need to make money via copywriter as opposed to hemorrhaging it.
Those of you who are following me here to become better writers will have a huge leg up on the people you’re competing against. You’re learning tips and techniques that will put you head and shoulders above the folks who don’t consider the value of great writing.
