Going through my journals to preserve them these last few weeks has SUPER surprised me. It appears I kept copies of nearly all (if not all) of the scores of cards and letters that I wrote to the Kelleys over the years, and they crack me up every time I stop long enough to read one!
Look what I found just today, which I created following Carolyn’s hip surgery in 1990 (I’m including images so you can crack up at the deliberately lousy illos, too!!!)
WALKING WITH YOUR HIP PO’
And here’s one I sent while she was still in the hospital:
I’d include another example or two but my garage sale starts in thirty minutes, and I have to gird my loins for that. Being available to visitors for three full hours one day every weekend for the next month and a half (and then I’m taking a two-month break!) is no easy task. It requires me to bundle up (it’s freezing out there!) and act gregarious, which I usually only am with close friends. (“Writing is show business for shy people.”) But I have set the task before me, and I must perform. I need to find homes for 99.999% of my belongings before September!
If there are lags in the visitors, I can teach myself some more Spanish, so that will be good…
See ya later, but probably NOT today or tomorrow! I will have to recover from my “garage sale” experience!
