I’m proactively looking for part time writing gigs again. Got a two-week trial subscription to Flexjobs to see if there’s anything there, but it’s slim pickings unless the applicant has agency experience, which I don’t, unless I can claim my own company as being an agency, but I don’t think I can.
A friend has an author friend who will be needing an editor, and he will recommend me to them. That’s the best way to get writing/editing work, from people who already know how good I am and can vouch for me. I have a testimonials page, of course, but not a lot of people run across it on their own.
I’m not using Upwork or other freelance platforms anymore to look for work. The Looky Lou’s there are always looking for bargain basement prices. I’m long past that stage in my writing career. Not a hobbyist or wannabe — I’m an actual professional who has made my living as a writer since 2007, until AI early adopters stopped looking for pros and decided to let AI shoot them in the foot. AI is great for a lot of things, but not for copy (sales) writing, which requires a human who is well-versed in psychology and persuasion! They’ll figure this out eventually, but until then, I’m back in the trenches looking for people who have already been burned by AI and are looking to get back on an even keel.
