I don’t want to jinx this, but I’m on pins and needles. I’m on the cusp of landing a seven-month-long dream job: writing campaign ads for Democratic candidates and causes across the country. Yes, a paid job.
I can’t imagine a more important position for a layperson to hold until Election Day — other than the position of VOTER, which most of you (and I) also hold in our hands!
I need to write a few 15- and 30-second ads (spin ’em out of whole cloth, no particular candidate) and hope to be chosen as one of the winning candidates.
I feel pretty confident, as I cut my teeth as an “on-hold” script writer in 2007, and those were mostly 10-, 12-, 15-, 20-, 30-second ads, plus I’ve been a volunteer political operative for decades. (Did you know I was actually invited to submit my resume to become a script/copywriter for the first Obama-Biden campaign back in the day? I was, but they wanted me to relocate to DC or Chicago, and I couldn’t do that.)
I’m very excited about this possibility. I don’t want to write much more until I know whether I got it, because I’ll just get my hopes up too high if I dwell on this much more.
Wish me luck!
